The Open 2027 returns to St Andrews from 11 to 18 July 2027. It will be the 155th Open, and the 31st time the Old Course has hosted golf’s oldest championship. If you are planning to be there, the most important thing to sort early is where you will stay.

The Open 2027 dates

The championship week runs from Sunday 11 July to Sunday 18 July 2027, with practice days at the start of the week and the four championship rounds at the end. It is the first Open at St Andrews since the 150th Open in 2022, which set an attendance record of 290,000 spectators.

2027 also marks 100 years since Bobby Jones won the Open at St Andrews in 1927, so expect plenty of history around the week.

How to get tickets

Tickets and hospitality are sold through the official Open website, theopen.com. Sign up there for ticket news so you hear as soon as each release opens. Practice-day tickets are usually easier to get than championship days, and they are a good way to see the course and the players up close.

Where to stay for the Open

During Open week, St Andrews is busier than at any other time. Homes within walking distance of the Old Course are booked first, often more than a year ahead.

  • In town: walk to the course, with restaurants and bars on your doorstep. Best for groups who want to be in the middle of it all.
  • Strathkinness and the villages around town: 5 to 15 minutes away, quieter, and usually with more space and parking.
  • Kingsbarns: about 10 minutes by car, with its own links and beach.
  • The East Neuk: Crail, Anstruther and Elie are 15 to 30 minutes away. They suit families and anyone who wants to finish the day by the sea. See our sister company, East Fife Holiday Homes.

Getting around during Open week

Roads around the town are busy and parking near the course is limited. The R&A publishes travel, park-and-ride and parking details closer to the championship. If you are staying outside town, plan to arrive early each day.

Tips for booking

  • Book your stay as early as you can, before championship tickets are confirmed if necessary.
  • Groups should look at larger houses: it is usually cheaper per person than several smaller homes, and keeps everyone together.
  • Check the arrival and departure days for each home, as some have fixed changeover days in peak weeks.
