Absolutely love these guys. The flat (1a gibson place) was clean, easy to get to and an amazing location. Well appointed with amazing local toiletries (which you can buy just up the road) and very easy/clear checkout instructions. We even locked ourselves out and they responded near instantly. Can't recommend them enough!

Communication was great leading up to our stay, Achanair cottage was excellent, clean, and everything you need for a 5 night stay. The location is perfect a 5 minute walk to South Street and the center of town with all its restaurants and pubs, altogether the perfect place to stay when in St Andrews.

My husband, daughter and I recently stayed at Square Green (No 14). This is a bright, spacious apartment overlooking the bowling green, exactly as depicted in the photographs. Spotless throughout, with well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds and having the private parking space is a bonus. The location is excellent - a 10 minute walk up to the town centre. We would definitely plan to stay here next time we are in St Andrews.

About our self catering accommodation in St Andrews

Features of our properties

From stylish one-bedroom holiday flats for a romantic weekend to spacious houses for family gatherings, our collection of self catering accommodation in St Andrews suits every type of trip. Many of our properties include modern kitchens, private parking, outdoor seating areas, and fast Wi-Fi, ideal whether you’re here for a short break or a longer holiday.

Every listing shows room layouts, amenities, and clear photos. What you book is what you meet when you unlock the door.

Filter by size or feature to find your ideal property. Cosy one‑bed hideaways for two, with a wood burner, bright family houses with enclosed gardens, ideal for dog friendly stays and even modern beach apartments with floor‑to‑ceiling glass, perfect for watching the beautiful St Andrews sunset.

Choose the space that suits your stay

Self catering in St Andrews works best when you can choose the setup around your trip. Across this collection, you’ll find compact apartments for couples and short breaks, larger apartments for families or golf groups, cottages for quieter stays, and houses with more room to gather.

That gives you more control than a hotel stay. You can choose a central base close to shops, restaurants and the university, or look slightly further out for more outdoor space, parking or a slower setting. Each listing shows the bedrooms, bathrooms, layout and guest numbers clearly, so you can match the property to how you want to use it.

Kitchens, dining space and easy nights in

The biggest strength of self catering is flexibility. You can eat out when you want to, but you are not tied to restaurants for every meal. The properties include kitchen and dining space, with many offering practical details such as ovens, freezers, dishwashers, coffee machines, washing machines and starter packs to help you settle in.

That is useful if you are travelling with children, staying for golf, visiting the university, planning a longer break or arriving after a busy day on the coast. You can keep breakfast simple, make packed lunches, cook properly when you want to, or enjoy a quieter evening in after a day around St Andrews.

Town centre convenience or quieter outdoor space

This collection gives you different versions of a St Andrews stay. If you want to be close to the centre, properties such as Bridge Street Apartment, Melbourne Place and Alexandra Penthouse put you in strong positions for town, restaurants, university visits and golf. Larger central homes such as Logies Cottage and Lade Braes give you more space while keeping you close to the life of St Andrews.

If outdoor space matters more, you can look at stays with gardens, patios, decking or countryside outlooks. Balone Garden Cottage is a strong fit for a quieter self catering break, with a private enclosed patio, rural views and a wood-burning stove. Lodge No 2 brings a lodge-style option with decking, countryside views and access to resort facilities

Useful extras for families, dogs and longer stays

Self catering becomes easier when the small details match your plans. Across the listed properties, you’ll find options with gardens, pet-friendly rules, parking, multiple bathrooms, larger living areas and flexible sleeping layouts. Those details matter if you are travelling as a family, bringing a dog, sharing with friends or staying for more than a couple of nights.

You can also add selected extras before arrival, subject to availability. Breakfast packs, coffee pods, baby equipment, early check-in and late checkout can help shape the stay around your plans, especially when you are arriving with children, planning around tee times or making the most of a short break.

Choosing the right time to book

St Andrews apartments fill fastest around university ceremonies, major golf dates, summer weekends, Christmas and New Year.

  1. Winter graduation takes place on 1 and 2 December 2026. The 2027 summer ceremonies run from 28 June to 2 July 2027. Families needing several bedrooms, parking or a central location should book well ahead of these dates.

  2. The Open returns to St Andrews from 11 to 18 July 2027. With graduation ending nine days before Championship week begins, expect demand from late June through mid-July 2027 to be far higher than during a normal summer. Accommodation for The Open should be secured as early as possible rather than treated as a standard two or three-month booking.

  3. For other summer stays, booking two to three months ahead gives you a stronger choice of location, parking and bedroom setup. Flexible travellers can also find shorter gaps and late availability between existing bookings, particularly outside major university and golf dates.

Parking and getting around

Selected self catering properties include allocated or private parking. Where they do not, several public car parks provide dependable alternatives.

Petheram Bridge has 300 free spaces near North Haugh and provides straightforward access to the town centre. Murray Place has 40 free spaces and is useful for the Old Course side of town.

Woodburn Place has 30 free spaces near East Sands. Argyle Street North and South are paid long-stay car parks near the bus station and town centre. Bruce Embankment is convenient for the Old Course and West Sands, with seasonal charges from 1 April to 30 September. St Mary’s Place provides paid short-stay parking in the centre.

Leuchars is the nearest railway station. Regular number 99 buses connect Leuchars with St Andrews, and taxis cover the journey in around ten minutes. Most bus services arrive at St Andrews bus station in the centre of town.

Food shopping and easy meals

For a full food shop, Morrisons is at 45 Largo Road and M&S Foodhall is at 23 Largo Road. Aldi is on Tom Stewart Lane. These stores sit close enough together to make the eastern side of town convenient for longer self-catering stays.

In the centre, Fisher & Donaldson has bakeries on Church Street and South Street. Jannettas is at 31 to 33 South Street, great if you like Gelato and sorbet, and Balgove Larder sits just outside St Andrews for local meat, bakery products, fruit, vegetables, deli food and ready meals .

What to check before you travel

Once your stay is booked, use the house guide to plan the first few hours properly. Check how access works, where to park, what time you can arrive and how the heating, bins, Wi-Fi and appliances work. That saves you dealing with basic questions after a long journey.

If you are arranging a supermarket delivery, taxi, restaurant booking or golf start time, plan it around your confirmed check-in time. Food deliveries should be booked after access time, and taxis are worth arranging early for morning tee times or late returns.

If anything could affect the stay, ask the Short Stay St Andrews team before you travel. That includes bringing a dog, needing a cot or highchair, arriving with more than one car, travelling with someone who struggles with stairs, or planning around a specific event. A quick check before arrival is usually much easier than trying to solve it once you are here.

What to pack for a self catering stay

Pack for changeable coastal weather. Layers, waterproofs and comfortable shoes are useful throughout the year. In summer, bring beach towels if you plan to use West Sands or East Sands. Golfers should pack a waterproof layer, spare glove and anything needed for early starts.

Our self catering properties include hotel quality linen, towels and basic household supplies.

If you have strong preferences, bring your favourite coffee, tea, spices or child-specific items. US and international guests should bring UK plug adaptors.

If you are driving an electric vehicle, check charging options before travel and bring the right cable for public chargers.
