Absolutely love these guys. The flat (1a gibson place) was clean, easy to get to and an amazing location. Well appointed with amazing local toiletries (which you can buy just up the road) and very easy/clear checkout instructions. We even locked ourselves out and they responded near instantly. Can't recommend them enough!

Communication was great leading up to our stay, Achanair cottage was excellent, clean, and everything you need for a 5 night stay. The location is perfect a 5 minute walk to South Street and the center of town with all its restaurants and pubs, altogether the perfect place to stay when in St Andrews.

My husband, daughter and I recently stayed at Square Green (No 14). This is a bright, spacious apartment overlooking the bowling green, exactly as depicted in the photographs. Spotless throughout, with well-equipped kitchen and comfortable beds and having the private parking space is a bonus. The location is excellent - a 10 minute walk up to the town centre. We would definitely plan to stay here next time we are in St Andrews.

About our graduation accommodation in st andrews

Features of our properties

The University is woven through St Andrews rather than contained within one enclosed campus. Teaching buildings and university landmarks stretch across North Street, South Street, The Scores, St Mary’s Place and the North Haugh

Our central apartments put you among those streets. Selected stays sit directly on South Street or Market Street, while others are tucked into quieter lanes and residential developments nearby. You can stay close to the reason for your visit without giving up the restaurants, shops and historic centre that family members may want to explore while they are here.

Stays for parents, couples and family groups

A one-bedroom apartment works well for parents visiting for a weekend, attending an open day or helping a student move. Two-bedroom apartments give families more room and allow parents, siblings or grandparents to share one booking.

Selected two-bedroom stays add two bathrooms, which can make a noticeable difference during graduation mornings or visits involving several adults. Larger families can also reserve apartments close together rather than splitting across unrelated parts of St Andrews

Keep a larger family close together

St Mary’s Gardens includes a collection of neighbouring two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartments in a central development. Several can be reserved for the same dates, giving extended families separate front doors while keeping everyone in one place.

This works particularly well for graduation. Parents, grandparents, siblings and family friends can stay nearby without sharing one large house or travelling across town to meet before the ceremony. The development also includes on-site parking and access to EV chargin

Help with planning a visit to St Andrews University

Choosing your location

For graduation, North Street and the surrounding town centre provide convenient access to Younger Hall. Apartments around Market Street, South Street and St Mary’s Place also keep the main university quarter close.

For Arts, Humanities and Divinity visits, look towards North Street, South Street, The Scores and St Mary’s Quad. Science and Medicine visitors may prefer the western side of town for the North Haugh buildings. The University’s central visitor route takes around 30 minutes on foot, while the longer route covering North Haugh and the pier takes around an hour.

Graduation ceremonies at Younger Hall

Younger Hall on North Street is the University’s main graduation venue. Ceremonies usually begin at either 10.30am or 2pm and last around 90 minutes. Graduands are advised to collect their tickets and arrive before the ceremony begins, so accommodation within central St Andrews makes the morning easier for the whole family.

Parliament Hall at St Mary’s College on South Street is also used for winter graduation photography. A central apartment between North Street and South Street keeps both locations within the same part of town.

Graduation dates and early booking

The next winter graduation ceremonies take place on Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 December 2026.

Summer graduation for the Class of 2027 runs from Monday 28 June to Friday 2 July 2027

Central apartments, properties with parking and groups of neighbouring apartments should be booked early once the ceremony week is known. The individual ceremony schedule for summer 2027 will be confirmed later, so families may need to secure accommodation before knowing whether the ceremony falls in the morning or afternoon.

Summer 2027 will be unusually busy because The Open begins at St Andrews on Sunday 11 July, only nine days after graduation week ends, and runs until Sunday 18 July. Demand is likely to remain high throughout the period between the two events.

Open days, offer-holder visits and moving-in weekends

The next in-person undergraduate visiting days are Saturday 10 October 2026, Wednesday 28 October 2026 and Wednesday 14 April 2027. An undergraduate and postgraduate offer-holder day is scheduled for Saturday 3 April 2027.

For the start of the 2026 academic year, halls open on Saturday 5 September, Orientation Week runs from 7 to 11 September, and teaching begins on Monday 14 September. Families helping students move should expect higher demand across those dates, particularly for apartments with parking or space for several relatives.

Parking around the university and town centre

Selected apartments include their own parking, which removes the need to find a space during graduation and other busy university dates.

For properties without parking, Argyle Street North and South provide long-stay paid parking near the town centre. St Mary’s Place has short-stay parking close to the Students’ Association and central university buildings. Petheram Bridge is convenient for North Haugh, with public EV chargers also available there. Current restrictions and charges should always be checked on arrival

Why book your university stay direct?

Best rates guaranteed!
Friendly, local support before, during, and after your stay
Insider tips on restaurants, walks, and activities you won’t find in a guidebook

You are not searching through thousands of mixed listings and trying to calculate the distance to university buildings from a vague location description. Our collection has been chosen and managed by a local team that knows St Andrews street by street. We can help you find a one-bedroom apartment for parents, several neighbouring stays for a graduation group or a property with parking and step-free access. You book direct, receive clear pricing and speak to people who know the homes and the university areas around them.

Best rates when you book direct

Book through Short Stay St Andrews for the best available rates across our university and graduation accommodation.

Availability, pricing and property information come from the team managing the apartments. You are not passing an important family booking through a marketplace that may have limited knowledge of the property or its position in St Andrews.

Local support from our St Andrews team

The University is spread throughout the town, so “near campus” is not precise enough. A property suited to a graduation at Younger Hall may not be the first choice for a visit focused on North Haugh or East Sands.

Our local team knows which apartments sit closest to different university areas, which include parking, which have step-free access and where several family groups can stay near one another.

Help before and during your stay

Get in touch before booking to find out about access, parking, bedroom arrangements, neighbouring apartments or graduation plans.

The same local team is available during your stay if something needs attention. You will not need to explain the booking again through a generic support centre.
