A RELAXED BASE FOR EVERY UNIVERSITY MILESTONE

More Space and Flexibility for Your Family

Self-catering gives families a comfortable place to prepare for graduation, spend time together and relax between university events. Enjoy breakfast before an early ceremony, return for photographs or refreshments and share the day without coordinating separate hotel rooms. Your own kitchen and living area also make longer visits, moving-in weekends and open days feel less rushed. Family members can follow different plans while still having one convenient place to meet, eat and celebrate together.

HELP PLAN YOUR UNIVERSITY VISIT

Practical Advice for Graduation, Open Days and Family Stays

CHOOSE THE RIGHT PART OF TOWN

Choose accommodation around the university locations you will be visiting, then consider your family size, transport and schedule. Booking the right property early can make busy university weekends feel much simpler.

PLAN AROUND YOUNGER HALL

University graduation ceremonies are generally held in Younger Hall and usually begin at either 10.30am or 2pm, lasting around 90 minutes. Staying centrally gives the family more time to prepare and reduces the need to arrange transport on the day.

CHECK THE PROPERTY LAYOUT

Consider how many bedrooms and bathrooms your family will need rather than choosing by guest capacity alone. Two bathrooms, flexible sleeping arrangements and a comfortable living space can be especially useful when several adults are preparing for the same event.

KEEP EXTENDED FAMILY CLOSE

Neighbouring apartments allow parents, grandparents, siblings and friends to stay nearby without sharing one large property. This makes it easier to meet before the ceremony, celebrate afterwards and follow separate routines during the visit.

CONSIDER PARKING NEEDS

Selected properties include private or allocated parking, which can be valuable during busy graduation and moving-in weekends. Check the listing carefully and plan public parking or transfers before arrival when a dedicated space is not included.

PLAN FOR MORE THAN THE CEREMONY

Leave time for photographs, family meals and exploring the historic university town. A central self-catering property allows guests to walk to local restaurants, shops, university landmarks and the coastline between planned events.

BOOK BUSY UNIVERSITY DATES EARLY

Central apartments, properties with parking and groups of neighbouring homes are often the first to fill around graduation, open days and moving-in weekends. Secure your accommodation once the main dates are known, then confirm the latest ceremony or visiting schedule directly with the University.
